PrepNation 101 Preseason FB Countdown: No. 75 North Miami Beach
75. North Miami Beach (Fla.)
Last season’s record: 12-1, lost in Class 6A quarterfinals
Coach: Jeff Bertani
Key players: QB/DB Nico Flores (6-2, 195, Sr.), LB/RB Markeith Russell (6-0, 200, Sr.), WR/DB Kemal Ishmael (5-8, 170, Sr.), WR Terrance Kinchen (5-9, 170, Sr.), OL Maurice Anderson (6-1, 235, Sr.)
Biggest strength: QB
Question mark: Depth
Outlook: Once a DadeCounty football also-ran, North Miami Beach is now a challenger for the 6A state title. The Chargers enter the season with great momentum after walloping defending state titlist Miami Northwestern, 25-0, in a spring scrimmage. But the biggest reason to believe that NMB will be a contender in ’08 is the return of Flores under center. He accounted for over 1,700 total yards last season and 20 touchdowns last season. Receivers Ishmael and Kinchen are two reliable talents for Flores to throw to. Russell absolutely flies to the football at LB. A young offensive line will behind returning starter Anderson.
Toughest games: Sept. 11 vs. Killian, Oct. 4 at No. 66 John Curtis Christian (La.), Oct. 10 vs. Norland, Nov. 8 vs. No. 88 Miami Central
