FEATS OF THE WEEK: As a weekend-long ice storm raged outside the Hammons Student Events Center at Missouri State University, No. 8 Medford, Ore., South slipped past No. 14 Winter Park, Fla., Lake Howell, 77-72, to win the Bass Pro Tournament of Champions in Springfield, Mo. Tournament MVP Kyle Singler (Duke) scored 34 points in the final and 92 in the three-game event. Nick Calathes (Florida) led Lake Howell with 25 points . . . No. 23 New York, Rice entered the national rankings after upsetting No. 17 Chicago, Simeon, 53-51, in the Nike Super Six Invitational at Madison Square Garden in New York. Junior guard Kemba Walker paced Rice with 14 points and six assists. Simeon's Derrick Rose (Memphis) had 22 points . . . Regionally ranked Philadelphia, Neumann-Goretti upset No. 9 Hyattsville, Md., DeMatha, 81-71, in overtime at the HoopHall Classic in Springfield, Mass. The game was televised nationally by CSTV. The Saints were led by Syracuse-bound point guard Antonio "Scoop" Jardine's 36 points and six assists. Austin Freeman (Georgetown) had 25 for DeMatha . . . No. 13 Lakewood, Ohio, St. Edward hammered Northeast Ohio rival Solon, 70-41, to win the McDonald's Classic in Erie, Pa. Blue chip junior forward Delvon Roe had 20 points each in the championship game and the Eagles' 68-65 semifinal win over regionally ranked Los Angeles, Westchester.
